compute just got more expensive again. aws raised its capacity block gpu rates about 15% on oct 7, taking an h100 hour from $5.19 to $5.97 and a b200 from $12.36 to $14.21.
the cloud price curve is bending back up while model prices fall.
Context
AWS's Capacity Blocks for ML pricing page says that effective October 7, 2026, hourly rates per accelerator across all available AWS Regions will be $16.146 for P6-B300, $14.208 for P6-B200, $7.895 for P5en, $6.866 for P5e, $5.970 for P5, $2.546 for P4de and $1.696 for P4d, with slightly higher GovCloud rates for the two newest types.
Sayer reports that AWS stated no percentage and that outlets citing Wells Fargo call the move about 15%, a fourth straight quarterly increase. FastGPU's tracker lists the B200 Capacity Block rate as moving from $12.36 to $14.21 per GPU hour, up 15.0%.
The B200 figures match: $14.208 on AWS's page rounds to $14.21, and FastGPU records the prior rate as $12.36. The H100 rate matches too, since P5 is AWS's H100 instance and the new rate is $5.970, which rounds to $5.97. The old $5.19 for the H100 was not found in the pages read. It equals $5.97 divided by 1.15, so it is unsupported here, not refuted.
The 'about 15%' is an analyst figure and FastGPU's tracker. AWS's own page states new rates and no percentage.
'The cloud price curve is bending back up while model prices fall' is the author's line. A FastGPU-based summary says 15 of 176 tracked GPU list prices rose in September with none falling, which supports the direction for GPU rental. These are reserved Capacity Block prices, which AWS describes as dynamic and updated based on supply and demand, so they do not cover on-demand prices.
