google's office agent finally exists, and it can call claude. gemini agent, launched oct 9, runs long-horizon work across email, slides, code and data, and can invoke tools from other vendors like claude.
the office is becoming a multi-agent negotiation.
Context
At Gemini at Work 2026 on October 8, Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent, a universal agent for work, per Google's blog, 9to5Google and TechCrunch. AImagazine and AppStack Insider report it is in private preview, plans work across Workspace and Microsoft 365, and can route jobs to Claude.
TechCrunch describes a unified agent that does tasks on the user's behalf from a single interface, starting with businesses.
Date: the announcement was October 8, not October 9, and it is a private preview, not a general launch.
Claude routing comes from the trade write-ups. Google's own post excerpt read here does not mention it, so treat it as reported by those outlets.
'The office is becoming a multi-agent negotiation' is the author's opinion.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
