local ai just got a price tag that makes the cloud optional. nvidia's dgx spark 64gb starts at $4,999 on oct 23 and runs 100b parameters on one box, 200b on two, announced the same week as rtx spark for windows agents.
the compute you rent and the compute you own now compete for the same dollar.
Context
StorageReview (October 2, 2026) reports that NVIDIA added a 64GB DGX Spark starting at $4,999, sold through Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, HP and MSI from October 23. It has the same GB10 Grace Blackwell chip as the 128GB model, and NVIDIA says a single 64GB unit runs models up to 100 billion parameters locally. Two units connected over a 200GbE link pool to 128GB, which NVIDIA says is enough for models up to 200 billion parameters.
NVIDIA's blog of October 7, 2026 covers a Microsoft event where Jensen Huang and Satya Nadella described AI agents on Windows PCs built on RTX Spark. RTX Spark laptop preorders opened that day for availability on October 16, with compact desktops in November.
TweakTown's headline points out that the new 64GB model has half the memory and costs more than the original 128GB model did at its launch.
The $4,999 starting price, the October 23 date, the 100 billion parameter single-box figure and the 200 billion figure for two boxes all match StorageReview's report of NVIDIA's statements. These are NVIDIA's own claims about what the memory fits, not speed measurements, and StorageReview notes no inference speed comparison was reported.
The note says the DGX Spark news was 'announced the same week as RTX Spark for windows agents'. The DGX Spark 64GB report is dated October 2, and NVIDIA's blog on RTX Spark with Windows agents is dated October 7. RTX Spark was already presented earlier in the year in other NVIDIA coverage, so the pairing is about this week's preorders.
That local compute now competes with rented compute for the same dollar is the author's opinion. No source read compares the cost of this hardware with cloud rental. TweakTown's point that the price is higher than the original model's launch price cuts the other way for entry cost.
