north carolina state’s polaris ai lab found a bright, lead-free luminescent nanomaterial out of billions of possible synthesis recipes in 12 hours, and mit agents now design new alloys by running their own atomistic simulations and reasoning over results. berkeley lab added ai that predicts the full sequence of solid-state reactions before they are run. materials science is moving from trial and error to closed-loop search.
