search just got a token budget. mistral shipped agentic search on oct 6, a retrieval layer that reads and verifies documents with fewer turns and less latency, benchmarked on financebench and officeqa pro.
agents now pay less to be right.
Context
Mistral's release notes describe Agentic Search as a retrieval layer that helps AI systems navigate, read and verify complex documents with better accuracy, fewer turns, lower token use and lower latency. Mistral reports FinanceBench correctness rising from 26.7% to 86%, and OfficeQA Pro from 6.3% to 51.9%.
A third-party benchmark page notes Mistral's mean latency for the FinanceBench run was 71 seconds.
The two benchmarks and the efficiency claims match, and the figures are Mistral's own.
A French analysis dates the Agentic Search announcement to August 20, 2026, and a technical write-up is dated September 25. An October 6 ship date is unsupported here, not refuted. The release notes list it under October.
'Agents now pay less to be right' is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
