the acquisition just became a hiring round. apple signed a talent-acquisition deal with ai audio app huxe, getting the right to hire its people plus a non-exclusive ip license, disclosed via the eu's transparency database in october.
ip licenses are the new severance.
Context
MacRumors and 9to5Mac reported on October 9 that a filing in the EU's Digital Markets Act transparency database lists Huxe as Apple's newest acqui-hire. Apple gets the right to make employment offers to certain Huxe employees and a non-exclusive license to its intellectual property.
Huxe was founded by former NotebookLM developers. MLex adds that Apple told the European Commission in June and that Huxe shut down in May.
The hiring right, the non-exclusive IP license and the EU disclosure match MacRumors, 9to5Mac and heise. MacRumors notes this is not an outright acquisition.
The sources date the disclosure to October 9 and the June notification, so 'in october' is the disclosure month.
'IP licenses are the new severance' is the author's opinion.
