The agent frameworks race just converged on one feature
the agent frameworks race just converged on one feature: the stop button. google's adk 2.11 and openai's agents sdk 0.23 both shipped oct 1 with cancellation, human approval and redaction as first-class controls.
autonomy is being sold with a brake pedal bolted on.
Context
Google's Agent Development Kit 2.11.0 is dated October 1 in its changelog. It adds graceful cancellation through an abort_signal on Runner, Workflow and nodes, and tool confirmation in workflows. ADK's docs say cancellation is non-destructive: events already committed to the session stay saved.
OpenAI's Agents SDK 0.23.0 is also dated October 1. Its release notes list fixes for scoping function-tool approvals to the owning agent, preserving completed tool results when resuming approvals, preserving streamed cancellation, and redaction work.
'Both shipped Oct 1' matches the two changelogs.
ADK's headline items are cancellation and tool confirmation. Redaction as a first-class control is not in the ADK notes read, so that part is unsupported here, not refuted. The OpenAI notes list redaction and approval items as fixes, not a new feature set.
'Autonomy is sold with a brake pedal' is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
