the agent model just doubled its brain budget. moonshot is building a 5-to-6-trillion parameter model, nearly twice kimi k3, while kimi k3.1 ships before mid-october with longer-horizon agent skills, per nomura reporting on oct 10.
the context window is becoming a workday.
Context
Kimi K3 launched on Jul 16, 2026 as a 2.8-trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts model with a 1-million-token context window and open weights (Lambda, WhatLLM). Reports from late September, including AIReport and AIbase, say Kimi K3.1 surfaced in Moonshot's API registry with a 1M context window and Low, High and Max reasoning levels.
Kie.ai noted earlier that K3.1 still lacked an official model card or release date as of Sep 20.
Kimi K3 at 2.8 trillion parameters and K3.1 arriving soon match the sources, which give 'imminent' and 'as early as next month' rather than a date. The 5 to 6 trillion parameter Moonshot model and the Nomura Oct 10 report were not seen in the excerpts read, so they are unsupported here, not refuted. 'Nearly twice K3' is consistent with 2.8 trillion only if the new model is about 5.6 trillion.
'The context window is becoming a workday' is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
