the agent protocol just went stateless. the july mcp spec, still the topic in october, deleted the initialize handshake and session header, and developers are split on whether it's now just rest.
the connector now routes without a conversation.
Context
Verified event date: the Model Context Protocol 2026-07-28 specification was released on Jul 28, 2026 (MCP blog). The changelog says it removes protocol-level sessions and the Mcp-Session-Id header from the Streamable HTTP transport, and the blog lists a stateless protocol core, header-based routing, cacheable list results and authorization hardening.
AWS Architecture says the initialize handshake is gone. InfoQ (Aug 12) reports developers asking whether the stateless change just makes MCP an API again, and notes the release adds two required HTTP headers that let a gateway route, throttle and meter agent traffic.
The post says the July spec is still the topic in October. The release date is Jul 28 and the InfoQ debate piece is dated Aug 12, so the split among developers is documented from August; October discussion was not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. The deleted handshake and session header match the changelog and AWS. 'The connector now routes without a conversation' is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
