the compute arms race just pulled in a rocket company. spacex is reportedly seeking $40 billion in financing to buy nvidia chips, per digitimes on oct 8, on top of musk's terafab push.
the moat is no longer the model, it's the checkbook.
Context
DigiTimes reported on October 8 that SpaceX is pursuing 40 billion dollars of financing to buy Nvidia chips. CNBC reported October 7 that Apollo and several banks are in talks to finance the 40 billion dollar Nvidia GPU purchase.
Tom's Hardware calls it a debt package that could fund roughly 360,000 Vera Rubin GPUs across 5,000 NVL72 racks.
The deal is reported, not announced. CNBC says talks are under way.
It is financing, mostly described as debt, for hardware, not equity.
'On top of Musk's Terafab push' matches the DigiTimes headline, which pairs the financing with Terafab's path to compute independence.
'The moat is the checkbook' is the author's opinion.
