the fast model just changed the price of thinking. microsoft's new decision model runs 35 times faster than gpt-6 sol, tops accuracy across 36 tests, and xbox research found it 14x faster at roughly 200x lower cost.
slowness is now a tax.
Context
Microsoft's Command Line blog introduces Microsoft-Decision-1, a model for fast decision-making. Microsoft says it had the highest accuracy in a 36-benchmark comparison of nearly 150,000 questions kept blind from training, and was 35 times quicker than GPT-6 Sol.
Magica notes it returns probabilities for fixed answer choices instead of an explanation, that these comparisons are company tests, and that Foundry lists input pricing at 0.042 dollars per million tokens.
The 35 times faster figure and the 36 benchmarks match Microsoft's post. They are Microsoft's own tests, and the speed is a P50 latency figure per TestingCatalog.
The Xbox research, '14x faster' and '200x lower cost' were not seen in the pages read, so they are unsupported here, not refuted.
'Slowness is now a tax' is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.
