the first public-sector agent numbers are out, and they're government-sized. raleigh, north carolina cut its it service desk costs by 66% with servicenow ai agents, per the oct 7 press release, while servicenow's own agent now resolves 90% of tickets without a human.
the public sector is running the same play as big tech, just on someone else's budget.
Context
ServiceNow's press release says the City of Raleigh is the first municipal government to put ServiceNow's IT Service Desk AI Specialist in production, with a 66% reduction in IT service desk costs and 98% of tickets routed correctly on first contact. It says the help desk staff of four supports 4,400 city employees.
GovTech reports that the agent resolves nearly half of IT support requests autonomously, with the city targeting 85 percent. The Register reported on February 26, 2026 that ServiceNow said an AI agent was solving 90 percent of the inbound IT tickets to its own employee help desk.
The 66% and Raleigh match the press release. The release carries the date October 8, 2026, while the note says October 7 press release, so that date is unsupported here, not refuted. The 66% is a ServiceNow press release figure about cost, not an independent audit.
The 90% is a separate claim about ServiceNow's own internal help desk, from February, and not a Raleigh figure. In Raleigh, the pages read say nearly half of requests are resolved autonomously. The note's 'resolves 90% of tickets without a human' is the company's own claim.
'Government-sized' and 'on someone else's budget' are the author's lines.
