the fusion paper just got written by a model. gpt-6 astra produced two families of explicit exact solutions to a stellarator problem that had resisted researchers for 59 years, per the oct 8 report.
the bottleneck in plasma physics is no longer the math.
Context
The Neuron and The AI Insider reported in late September that University of Maryland researcher Matt Landreman found two families of exact solutions to a stellarator equilibrium problem tied to Grad's 59-year-old conjecture, with help from GPT-6 Astra. The AI Insider says he manually verified every equation.
A second paper dated October 5 on arXiv extends the solutions to equilibria without stellarator symmetry.
The two families, the 59 years and the exact solutions match. The coverage is from September 29 and 30, not October 8, so that date is unsupported here, not refuted.
The sources say the model helped and the researcher verified the results. 'Produced' goes further than the sources.
'The bottleneck is no longer the math' is the author's opinion.
