the game engine just got a co-developer. capcom's rex project, shown oct 2, folds ai into the re engine's workflow while keeping its ban on ai-generated assets across more than 2,000 developers.
the shipped build is still the human's signature.
Context
Capcom's programmer Satoshi Ishida outlined at the Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026 on Oct 2 a multi-phase project, REX, to turn the RE Engine into an 'AI-generation engine' for QA, debugging and data processing, per PC Gamer and GamesIndustry.biz.
Capcom told IGN it will not use AI-generated assets in its games, while using the technology to make development more efficient.
The Oct 2 talk, the REX project and the no AI-generated assets stance match the sources. The 2,000 developer figure is an estimate attributed to Eurogamer by GamesIndustry.biz, not a Capcom number, and it describes developers who use the engine.
'the shipped build is still the human's signature' is the author's opinion.
