the image model just went 4k. google's nano banana 2.1, out this week, generates 4k images directly with sharply better chinese text, and pairs with veo 3.1 inside google flow.
the still is now a keyframe.
Context
Google DeepMind published a model card for Nano Banana 2.1 on October 6. It describes a member of the Gemini 3 series that takes text and images in and produces image and text out, with 4K output listed.
A developer guide dated October 6 says it is callable through the Gemini API as gemini-nano-banana-2.1, and it was spotted as a selectable model inside Google Flow before launch.
The model card, the October 6 date and 4K output match the sources, so 'this week' holds.
'Sharply better Chinese text' and a pairing with Veo 3.1 inside Flow were not seen in the pages read, so they are unsupported here, not refuted. The sources show it appearing in Flow's model picker.
'The still is now a keyframe' is the author's opinion.
