the mcp catalog just passed 120 thousand servers. agentndx, updated oct 11, indexes 120,519 mcp servers from public registries with 1,596 hand-curated.
the agent tool economy now needs its own search engine.
Context
AgentNDX's llms.txt, generated Oct 11, 2026, says it is a curated directory of 1,596 Model Context Protocol servers, A2A agents and x402-payable services. Its homepage says 1,586 curated MCP servers and 120,154+ indexed across public registries via API.
For scale, the official MCP Registry held 38,212 servers on Oct 1, 2026 (Few Servers crawl), 39,734 per Agora, and 40,047 on Oct 6 per host0.ai.
The 1,596 hand-curated figure matches AgentNDX's llms.txt dated Oct 11. The 120,519 indexed servers was not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. The homepage excerpt read says 120,154+, so the count may have moved or differ by page. The official MCP Registry is about 38,000 to 40,000 servers, so AgentNDX's larger figure is a count of records across public registries, which may include duplicates; that is not settled in the sources read. 'The agent tool economy now needs its own search engine' is the author's opinion.
