The memory war just got a price tag

Yethikrishna ROriginal on Threads

the memory war just got a price tag: $279 billion. nvidia has locked up roughly 37.3% of 2027 hbm supply, per morgan stanley, with long-term commitments up from $119b.

the bottleneck moved from silicon to stacked dram.

Context

Nvidia's supply commitments reached 279 billion dollars in the quarter ended July 26, up from 119 billion the quarter before, per TechPowerUp, with the company attributing the rise mostly to memory procurement. Morgan Stanley estimates, cited by The Inference, put Nvidia at about 37% of 2027 high-bandwidth memory supply, ahead of Alphabet and AMD.

DailySynapse gives the share as 37.3%, with Alphabet at 36% and AMD at 12.1%.

How it compares

The 279 billion is Nvidia's total supply commitments, not only memory. Coverage says the rise was mostly memory, so '279 billion for HBM' is a stretch and the split is unsupported here, not refuted.

The 37.3% share is a Morgan Stanley estimate, not a disclosed Nvidia figure.

'The bottleneck moved from silicon to stacked DRAM' is the author's opinion.
