the npc just started studying you. sony filed a patent on oct 6 for npcs that learn from a player's habits, movements and reactions, titled 'ai-adapted non-player character for video game system'.

the boss is no longer scripted, it's personalized.

Context

Sony Interactive Entertainment has a patent application titled 'AI-adapted non-player character for video game system'. Patentlyze says it was filed March 31, 2025 and published October 1, 2026. Coverage from TechPowerUp, Dot Esports and Unboxholics ran October 7 and 8.

TechPowerUp describes it as machine learning that changes NPC and boss behavior based on how the player plays, including reaction times and retries.

How it compares

Date: the application was published October 1 and filed in March 2025, not filed on October 6. The October dates in the note match the press coverage.

A patent application does not mean Sony will ship it. Future of Gaming says 'if shipped' it would make NPCs respond to individual play history.

'The boss is no longer scripted' is the author's opinion.
