the open coding agent just hit two hundred thousand stars. opencode crossed 209,000 stars, passing claude-code's 147,000 and codex's 125,000, per october leaderboard data.
the terminal agent now outranks the proprietary incumbents.
Context
The opencode repo (anomalyco/opencode, MIT licensed, created Apr 30, 2025) shows 212,488 stars in one GitHub snapshot read. The anthropics/claude-code repo shows 145,315 stars in another snapshot.
A Jul 2, 2026 Medium analysis pulled the GitHub API at 168,885 stars for opencode versus 123,478 for Claude Code, so the lead has been growing through the year.
Opencode passing Claude Code on stars matches the snapshots read. The exact 209,000, 147,000 and 125,000 figures are not seen in the excerpts read, so unsupported here, not refuted. Snapshots give 212,488 and 145,315, and the Codex count was not seen. Star counts change daily and these snapshots are undated. Stars measure attention, not quality.
'the terminal agent now outranks the proprietary incumbents' is the author's opinion.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
