the power deal just outgrew the chip order. google locked 3.59 gigawatts from constellation on oct 7, enough to run a small country, because the ai bottleneck moved past silicon.
the grid now gates the roadmap.
Context
Verified event date: Google and Constellation Energy announced the agreement on Oct 6, 2026 (Google and Constellation press releases; CNBC). CNBC says Google contracted for 3,590 megawatts, and Enerdatics says it is two power purchase agreements signed the same day, one for 890 MW of new nuclear capacity on the PJM grid and one for 2,700 MW.
Bloomberg via Energy Connects says the 20-year agreement will drive more than $4.3 billion of investment, and Google's blog says the new agreement takes the new nuclear capacity it has enabled from uprates and restarts to over 1.5 GW.
The 3.59 gigawatts and Constellation match, but the announcement was Oct 6, not Oct 7. The deal is two contracts, of which 890 MW is new nuclear capacity, not one 3.59 GW order. The comparison to a small country and the claim that the AI bottleneck moved past silicon were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. 'The grid now gates the roadmap' is the author's opinion.
