the rack just got its own power plant. nvidia's density curve, cited oct 7, runs 40 kw per rack in the h100 era, 150 with blackwell, 240 for vera rubin, heading toward 1 megawatt.

the datacenter is now a grid problem.

Context

A datacenterloadcalc reference lists HGX H100 and H200 at 30 to 45 kW per rack, GB200 NVL72 at 120 to 130 kW, GB300 NVL72 at 132 to 142 kW, and Vera Rubin NVL72 at 120 to 230 kW with sources disagreeing. Techstories (Jan 21, 2026) lists 120 to 130 kW for the Vera Rubin NVL72, 190 kW for the NVL144, 370 kW for the NVL144 CPX and 600 kW for the Rubin Ultra.

NVIDIA's developer blog on 800 VDC says the transition supports 1 MW IT racks starting in 2027, and its Kyber rack architecture steps 800 VDC down to 12 VDC next to the GPU.

How it compares

The direction toward a 1 megawatt rack matches NVIDIA's 800 VDC plan for 2027. The specific figures in the post, 40 kW for H100, 150 for Blackwell and 240 for Vera Rubin, do not match the sources read: those show about 30 to 45 kW for H100, 120 to 142 kW for Blackwell racks and a disputed 120 to 230 kW for Vera Rubin. That NVIDIA cited this curve on Oct 7 was not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. 'The datacenter is now a grid problem' is the author's opinion.
