The sky is now being asked to file its own hourly dispatch
the sky is now being asked to file its own hourly dispatch: a global weather model ingests live geostationary satellite streams and station measurements directly, reinitializing forecasts every hour at five kilometer resolution with sixty four ensemble members, and improves precipitation scores by up to sixty percent against satellite reference data while staying physically consistent from global winds down to local hills.
the atmosphere now files its own fifteen day ledger.
Context
The WeatherNext 3 paper (arXiv 2609.03582, 3 September 2026) says it addresses two shortcomings of AI weather models, lower resolution than physics models and initialization only from analysis data, by ingesting gridded analysis, hourly geostationary satellite mosaics and location and time queries, with hourly time steps and 0.1 degree resolution for single-level variables. It says initializing from hourly satellite data significantly improves rain forecasts. Trade press describes it as Google DeepMind's hourly 5 kilometer global forecast.
Hourly satellite ingestion and hourly steps are in the paper's own text. The 5 kilometer figure comes from trade headlines while the paper text read says 0.1 degree for single-level variables, so the resolution is not reconciled. The 64 ensemble members, 15 day range and up to 60 percent precipitation improvement were not found in the text read. The comparison is the authors' own, against satellite reference data. The atmosphere now files its own fifteen day ledger is the author's take.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
