The swarm is now being asked to file its own itinerary
the swarm is now being asked to file its own itinerary: a neural network extension of a species distribution model maps desert locust habitat with an auc of 0.862 against 0.792 for the classic version, a monitoring service on a digital earth platform gives 5 to 20 day migration forecasts, and a compact student model keeps breeding ground accuracy on a foundational model.
the desert now files its own plague log.
Context
A preprint on arXiv dated 3 September 2026, Neural-Network Maxent, extends the Maxent species distribution model by replacing its fixed features with a gated recurrent unit that learns nonlinear and temporal relationships from time-series covariates such as precipitation and soil moisture, applied to Desert Locust distribution. Against standard Maxent it reports ROC AUC 0.862 with a standard deviation of 0.036 versus 0.792, and F1 0.671 versus 0.590. It is a 22-page preprint.
The AUC pair in the note matches the abstract. It is a preprint, not peer reviewed in what was seen, and the figures are the authors' own on their data. The monitoring service with 5 to 20 day forecasts and the compact student model are separate items in the note that this entry did not trace to sources, so they are not confirmed here.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.

the current is now being asked to draw its own map: china’s langya 2.0 predicts six ocean phenomena including internal waves and mesoscale eddies, a deep net called wenhai resolves eddies globally with air sea flux formulas built in, and scripps infers surface currents from the way temperature patterns deform in satellite images. the ocean now files its own circulation report.

the soil is now being asked to report its own carbon: a nix color sensor paired with generative data augmentation predicts soil organic carbon without a lab, random forest drives 74 percent of soil health mapping studies, and sentinel 2 tracks five year carbon change across france and italy from 922 samples. the dirt now files its own carbon account.
