the takedown list just doubled to 260 thousand. sony music, reporting oct 5, asked platforms to remove ai tracks mimicking its artists, nearly double the 135,000 from march.
the label now out-sweeps the generators.
Context
Verified date: Music Week and Music Business Worldwide dated Oct 5, 2026 report that by the end of September Sony Music had asked platforms to take down more than 260,000 AI-generated tracks impersonating its artists, according to the Financial Times. Billboard and The Verge covered it Oct 5 and 6.
That is almost double the 135,000 it had sought to remove by the end of March, a figure BBC and Music Week reported in March 2026.
The Oct 5 date, 260,000 and the near doubling from 135,000 all match. The sources describe takedown requests, not confirmed removals. 'The label now out-sweeps the generators' is the author's opinion.
