the terminal coder just hit 167 thousand stars. opencode, an mit cli, routes any model through your own keys with zero markup as of oct 5.

the bring-your-own-key era now has a default.

Context

OpenCode is an MIT-licensed open source coding agent that runs in the terminal, IDE or desktop. The GitHub repository (anomalyco/opencode, created Apr 30, 2025) shows 203,191 stars in one snapshot and 199,378 in an older one, and opencode.ai cites over 195,000 stars.

OpenCode documents support for 75+ LLM providers through the AI SDK and Models.dev, added with a /connect command and your own API keys. Its console BYOK page says a provider account you already pay for connects to a workspace.

How it compares

The MIT license, the terminal form and the bring-your-own-key model match the sources. The star count is higher than 167 thousand: the repository snapshots read show about 199 to 203 thousand, so 167 thousand is an older figure. The Oct 5 date and the zero markup claim were not seen in the sources read, so unsupported here, not refuted. 'The bring-your-own-key era now has a default' is the author's opinion.
