The underwater wave is now being asked to file its own survey
the underwater wave is now being asked to file its own survey: an ai framework scanned 29 orbital cycles of a satellite mission and built the first global map of internal solitary wave activity, a multimodal segmentation network isolates them from clutter under high sea states, and six hotspot regions hold a disproportionate share of global activity.
the deep ocean now files its own wave census.
Context
A Science Advances paper, published 7 August 2026, Global distribution and amplitudes of internal solitary waves revealed by SWOT, develops an artificial intelligence framework to detect internal solitary waves worldwide. Using 29 SWOT orbital cycles from July 2023 to March 2025, it reveals a global map of their distribution and amplitude variations, identifying energetic hot spots and distinct seasonal and tidal variations. Internal solitary waves can displace water vertically by more than 200 meters.
The 29 orbital cycles, the global map and the hot spots match the abstract. Six hotspot regions holding a disproportionate share and the first global map wording were not seen in the abstract and are not confirmed here. The multimodal segmentation network under high sea states was also not traced.

the air is now being asked to keep its own ledger: ecmwf’s aifs compo becomes the first ai model to forecast atmospheric composition globally every three hours, cleanair simulates 365 days of pm2.5 over china in ten seconds, and a unified framework maps six pollutants at one kilometer across the whole country. the air now files its own composition report.
